[W]hile the Jedi may be rebels, they’re also conservative underdogs; they aren’t fighting to bring about a new order, but to restore an old one, making them far more palatable to mainstream Americans than revolutionaries would be. The conviction that they were on a mission to wrest the country back from people who had traduced it was what made Reaganism a romantic cause to its adherents, too; that was why they never considered themselves radicals.
